Of late, several customers have reached out to my team asking why their Windows 10 1511 and 1607 clients, which are managed by WSUS or SCCM are going online to Microsoft update to download updates. Not only the clients are reaching out to external Microsoft URL, outside of the internal update endpoint, but they are downloading a significant.

Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is the service used by WSUS to download updates from Microsoft Update to the main WSUS server as well as from WSUS servers to their clients. Some download issues may be caused by problems with BITS on the server or client computers.
WSUS Client is not downloading the updates.Following steps were done. GPUpdate /force. BITS Restarted. Windows update service restarted. The WSUS server is reachable from the client and I can download the file.
We have a WSUS server running on Windows Server 2016. WSUS detects and sends updates to all systems, including the 2012 servers. WSUS will detect but not send updates to any of the 2016 servers. It shows 0 updates needed, all updates show 'installed or not applicable'.
Locally on the WSUS server open a command prompt; Navigate to where WSUS is installed on a 32-bit server this is generally under C:Program FilesUpdate ServicesTools; Run wsusutil reset; The WSUS will now go down and when it comes up it will start re-downloading the update files, this maybe be a fairly large download.
How can I force a wsus client to download all updates after I have approved them in the wsus console?
That's the command to use, but it won't force a download, it just makes the client check in with WSUS and ensure it's interfacing with it.
The downloads happen based on the clients' Windows Update settings.
If the detection worked and the computer is communicating with WSUS, then (in Windows 7+ anyway) Windows Update will say something like 'You receive updates: Managed by your system administrator' (if you didn't lock it down totally via GPO, you will also have the option 'Check online for updates from Microsoft Update').
If this is the case, then all is working, and you just need to hit 'Check for Updates' on the client.
Yes you can force a Windows client to download and install updates when you want.ABC-Update is a freeware tool available from http://abc-deploy.com/abc-update, and it is designed to do just what you are asking.
